Hello, I have several multimedia keys on my keyboard: there are two for decreasing/increasing volume, I suppose they have the hardware repetition feature, and for example other three for starting applications: web, MUA, whatever. I definitely know they doesn't induce hardware key repetition, but somehow xorg simulates key repetition as a software feature. Well actually it is a bug for these keys, if I press the browser key, I want only one browser process to start, only one browser window to appear, no matter how long I press the key. It is impossible to press this key for a moment: by hardware the initial keypress event is delayed, and won't even occur if you don't press the key for a couple of time (0.5 sec as I figured out). Some related bugreports filed for a different distro some years ago: at kernel bugzilla, finally we figured out this should be an X bug: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5780 and the other one filed at xorg bugtracker: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5765 afaik xfree11 also suffered from this bug, they patched it correctly, the patch was submitted into xorg bugtracker (but don't know where...), xorg team never applied it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: for instance start xev to test it.
Since this is already filed upstream, there's not much we can do about it besides just have this in our database for anyone searching. Once upstream fixes it, please reopen this bug.
