I'm attempting to emerge the openib-userspace package like this: > USE="dapl opensm" emerge openib-userspace But the emerge fails complaining about not finding the verbs library (which I believe should be installed by this package). I am running the gentoo-sources with kernel version 2.6.23-gentoo-r4. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.> USE="dapl opensm" emerge openib-userspace 2. 3. Actual Results: cannot find libibverbs Expected Results: emerge completes successfully providing several libraries necessary for low-level infiniband use. burn budge # emerge --info Portage 2.1.4_rc10 (default-linux/amd64/2007.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.7-r1, 2.6.23-gentoo-r4 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.23-gentoo-r4 x86_64 Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 8216 Timestamp of tree: Thu, 20 Dec 2007 18:30:06 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [disabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p17-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.5.1-r4 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.10-r5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r1 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.24 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.23-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=opteron -O2 -pipe -msse3" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=opteron -O2 -pipe -msse3" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="distlocks metadata-transfer nostrip sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j10" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --filter=H_**/files/digest-*" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage/local/layman/science /usr/portage/local/layman/sunrise /usr/portage/local/layman/voyageur" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X acl amd64 berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dri dvd dvdr fortran gdbm gif gpm gtk iconv isdnlog jpeg midi mmx mudflap ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin openmp pam pcre pdf perl png pppd python qt3 qt4 readline reflection sasl session smp spell spl sse sse2 ssl tcpd threads tiff toolkit-scroll-bars truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode xorg zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="mouse keyboard" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia nv vesa" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS

I don't see any such thing like sys-cluster/openib-userspace in the tree...
*** Bug 203819 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
(In reply to comment #2) > I don't see any such thing like sys-cluster/openib-userspace in the tree... > Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is in the gentoo-science overlay. Bryan Green suggested that I file a bugzilla bug report, and I assumed that was here. If not, I will put it somewhere more appropriate (but not sure where that is).
(In reply to comment #4) > Sorry, I should have mentioned that this is in the gentoo-science overlay. Yeah indeed. :)
I notice you have MAKEOPTS="-j10" set. That build log looks pretty weird, and there may be problems caused by the parallel build. Could you try emerging openib-userspace with MAKEOPTS=j1? If that also fails, submit the build log. Thanks, -bryan

Is there something you can put in the ebuild that overrides the MAKEOPTS to equal -j1? Thanks for the suggestion, Brian

Is there something you can put > in the ebuild that overrides the MAKEOPTS to equal -j1? Fixed in openib-userspace-1.2.5.1-r1.ebuild (now runs 'emake -j1'). Update your science overlay to get the update. I didn't do a revision bump, because this fixes a compile-time failure. Presumably, this bug can now be closed? (I lack the power to close it myself) -bryan
