Hello,

using 'genkernel --evms initrd' with the 3.4.9_pre 6 does for some reason not add the evms stuff into the initramfs. The kernel stops booting with "... is not a valid root device"

Downgrading to genkernel-3.4.8 works with nothing else changed, except the calling args: 'genkernel --evms2 initrd'.

This is the grub entry:

The genkernel-configuration is unchanged in any case. The kernel has been created manually in any case.

hmm, the latest in my portage tree is _pre11.
where else to get _pre12?

It is working with the brand new _pre12, thanks.

Here are the grub.config, note the doevms instead of evms2

I think this was just a case of _pre6 not supporting the deprecated "doevms2" option where newer versions do.
