Description Markus Nigbur (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-05-02 17:30:39 UTC
when using certain fonts, opera will not display any text on webpages, nor will
display its menubar.

changing the default font with qtconfig to anything but Helvetica or Andale Mono
(and maybe some other, yet to be tested) fonts will fix it.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

Changing the fonts fixes the menu bar problem for me, but on certain sites, noteable my.yahoo.com and the Opera Portal, all the text shows up as horizontal lines. All the links work but are just lines. I changed the fonts in qtconfig at random and nothing seems to fix it.

My guess is, you have to change the fonts in File->Preferences->->Fonts and Colors to something other than helvetica as well.

Also, I noticed that X issues an "coud not find encoding cp-1252" error message on the console whenever opera gets started.

Wich version of Opera ebuild? Also, which version of fontconfig and xfree do you have installed? This looks similar to bug 19330.
