Looking at ftp, they don't mirror gentoo anymore:

The ftp mirror was removed here: http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo/xml/htdocs/main/en/mirrors.xml?r1=1.443&r2=1.444

Removing since portage isn't on the mirror anymore.
