The init-script of net-misc/nxserver-freenx (files/nxserver.init) will cause trouble if /bin/sh is a symlink to dash, because it uses three times the bashism &>/dev/null (which in POSIX is interpreted as & >/dev/null).
A simple solution is to replace this sequence by the POSIX-conformal
  >/dev/null 2>&1
