Description Daniel Santos 2007-12-27 08:06:08 UTC
When dev-libs/xerces-c-2.8.0 compiled with USE="doc iconv icu libwww threads -debug -icu", glest fails shortly after startup with error:

Exception: Error parsing XML, file: , line: 0: An exception occurred! Type:RuntimeException, Message: The primary document entity could not be opened. Id=/usr/share/games/glest/data/core/menu/menu.xml

Solution: recompile dev-libs/xerces-c with +icu. It may also work to recompile -icu and -iconv and downgrading to <2.8 should work as well (since it worked before).

Related: bug 202922. I don't think this is a dupe because bug 202922 is on xalan-c being broken, although you may want to mark this a dupe and rename bug 202922 to "dev-libs/xerces-c-2.8.0 breaks multiple packages". In this case, glest actually compiles, it just fails to run. Also, this may effect more archs than just x86_64.

Comment 1 Daniel Santos 2007-12-27 10:45:53 UTC
BTW, menu.xml is in dos format, I wonder if that can be related.
Comment 2 Guido Jäkel 2008-06-19 11:35:28 UTC
I can confirm similar symtoms with dbxml, which requires xerces-c: It works on x86, but not on amd64 as long as iconv is enabled.

I just got the feedback, that that is fixed in xerces-c 2.9 and comming 3.0, see http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XERCESC-1586

Comment 3 Tiger 2008-10-26 15:11:16 UTC
xerces-c-3.0.0 ebuild didn't fix the compilation trouble.
I tested with and without the iconv USE for xerces-c and got the same errors in glest compilation.

I got same problems on ~x86 and ~amd64 platforms !

glest-2.0.1 is long gone.
