The bug disappears, after emerging the masked packages x11-base/xorg-x11-7.3 and x11-base/xorg-server-1.4.0.90. The build is fine now...

So basically you've been mixing, ~x86 with x86 packages... Thanks for the heads up, but it's not a bug :) If you do that and something breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

I'm not quiet sure, whether I mixed up ~x86 and x86 packages before. The problem occurred when I tried to emerge -avu world. At this point there were no ~x86 packages used, I guess... Originally I had the xorg-server-7.2 and related packages installed. Anyway, everything works now... :)
*** Bug 203192 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
please refer to the comments and patch in bug 203192 which was incorrectly marked as a duplicate of this bug for a reproducible and clear description of this bug. the original poster most likely enabled "dri" while trying to test for a solution and fixed the problem but this is easily reproducible in "x86" now that this package has been marked stable
