The modules aic7xxx and aic79xxx of 2.4.20-gentoo-r2 don't find my adaptec 29160 controllers. They do find the onboard controller of my Supermicro 370de6 mainboard, though (http://www.supermicro. com/PRODUCT/MotherBoards/RCC_HE_SL/370DE6.htm) The problem does not occur with vanilla-sources-2.4.20. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. compile gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r2 with aic7xxx and aic79xxx support (not as module) 2. boot with that kernel Actual Results: onboard controller are found, adaptec 29160 cards not. Expected Results: all controllers should be found (as they are with vanilla sources) Portage 2.0.47-r10 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.2, glibc-2.3.1-r4) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ http://distro.ibiblio. org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/share/config /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" USE="cups encode gif gtk imlib jpeg libg++ mikmod motif mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis pdflib png quicktime sdl spell svga truetype xml2 xmms gdbm berkdb slang readline java gpm tcpd libwww ssl perl python qt ldap -3dfx -3dnow -acpi -alsa -arts -apm -avi -dga -directfb -dvb -dvd -esd -ev6 -evo -fbcon firebird -flash -gb -gnome -gphoto2 -gps -kde -lirc -matrox -mbox -moziolla -oci -oss -opengl -pam -pcmcia -pda -ruby -scanner -sse -voodoo3 -wavelan -X -Xaw3d -xface -xinerama xv -zeo -ppc -sparc -alpha -mips -hppa -arm crypt mmx nocardbus x86 zlib" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=i686 -pipe" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" MAKEOPTS="-j3" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache"
do you have acpi in the kernel? if so, boot passing 'acpi=off' and let me know if that helps. Jay
i cannot reproduce this unless acpi is on... i am closing this bug as acpi seems to be the fix. please reopen if you still have issues. Jay
Both (vanilla and gentoo) have acpi enabled. While all works with vanilla, that is not true for gentoo. Then again, I'd like to keep acpi...
we have a much updated acpi than vanilla. this is a hardware issue. check with you vendor for an updated bios for your serverworks chipset - it is the problem. until then, set ACPI=off if you want it to work with gentoo-sources. closing. Jay
