I've juste installed kbfx and when I add it to panel kicker takes 99% of cpu and nothing happens (the "add applet" windows doesn't respond and kicker freeze). this is an upstream bug, dont see what I can do in gentoo to fix this. But I can suggest you to use kde4 it has a similarly cool menu ;-)
