Description upendra 2007-12-13 22:12:31 UTC
Splashscreen hangs for OOO-2.3.1 build used from portage on kernel - 2.6.23-gentoo-r3 on x86_64 core2duo.

OOO does not open on above mentioned kernel but does open on old kernels.

Tried reinstalling again and again but did not open ooo for above kernel version.

Running vncserver and opening vncviewer to run ooo-2.3.1 could run application on all kernels.

Could not run open office locally on above kernel

We definitely don't want reference to some messy forums.g.o. thread as bug description...

Post/attach your emerge --info, strace and whatever other relevant info here and reopen the bug then. If you think it's kernel related, what was the last working kernel? Etc. etc.

Thanks.

I have compiled openoffice -2.3.1 on 2.6.23-gentoo-r3 and when I type all shell
commands for open-office or open using Application>office>openoffice using
mouse, the splash-screen hangs at start and never complete to open open-office.

I have rebooted to 2.6.22-r8 and I could run ooffice without any issues.

I have to kill the application using, killall -9 oosplash.bin

When I run vncserver on my machine and access the service using vncviewer and
open
ooffice, openoffice works properly..

I am using gnome. If you need any more information I would be happy to assist

Thanks a lot

when
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32/xorg:/usr/lib64/xorg

then ooffice DOES NOT work

when

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib32/xorg or LD_LIBRARY_PATH= then ooffice works

when

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64/xorg then ooffice DOES NOT WORK

Comment 6 upendra 2008-01-09 18:05:33 UTC
Hi Stephen

Can you show LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable value in your 64 bit linux ?
Comment 7 Stephan Karacson 2008-01-10 13:57:32 UTC
Currently it is unset (on my amd64), also on my (ooo-working) Gentoo-32bit-laptop. Setting it to export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64/xorg doesn't work (on my amd64).
Comment 8 Stephan Karacson 2008-01-13 11:53:24 UTC
I cannot confirm now that this is a kernel-problem. Downgraiding to 2.6.22 brings the same problem, ooo isn't getting behind it's splash-screen.
Now: Linux version 2.6.22-gentoo-r8 (root@VrennsCastle) (gcc version 4.1.2 (Gentoo 4.1.2 p1.0.2)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jan 13 12:43:23 CET 2008
Perhaps theres another factor which came with 2.6.23?
Comment 9 Stephan Karacson 2008-01-13 14:23:40 UTC
Updateing deep world, where xorg-server 1.3 was included did it to me (anyway my 32bit laptop works with the old 1.2).
Please check this upendra. Eventually try a revdep-rebuild -a afterwards.
Comment 10 crywolf 2008-02-12 19:34:51 UTC
I had the same problem on an amd64 system using gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r2. System was completely up to date, revdep-rebuild found nothing. Updating the kernel did fix this, though. I tested with both 2.6.23-r8 and 2.6.24-r2. OpenOffice started without any problems on both of these.
Comment 11 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-03-24 15:28:43 UTC
Is this still a problem for some?
Comment 12 upendra 2008-03-24 15:49:49 UTC
splashscreen is no more hanging for my gentoo.

This is my config right now.

OpenOffice.org 2.3 680m9(Build:9238)

2.6.23-gentoo-r3, x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

$LD_LIBRARY_PATH = /usr/lib32/xorg

The issue seemed solved after changing value of LD_LBRARY_PATH variable, however I am not sure about this.

I do not mind if this particular bug is closed as it is no more issue for me.

Thanks
