Description Jan Van Uytven 2003-04-28 15:19:34 UTC
I have a quad port NIC (an Adaptec ANA-62044). When I boot the 3-stage 1.4rc3
liveCD, it detects the card and loads the 8390 module to handle it. 1.4rc4 sees the
card in lspci, but doesn't load any modules. Loading the 8390 module has no effect
(modprobe 8390, dhcpcd). Trying to bring the interface up manually fails with 'no such
device'

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load the 1.4rc4 LiveCD on a machine with an ANA-62044 NIC
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Machine loads, but eth0 is down. No network modules are loaded. Summary of lsmod:

Expected Results:
It should have loaded the correct module and configured eth0 as did 1.4rc3.

can you try the second kernel, type "smp" at boot prompt
Comment 2 Jan Van Uytven 2003-05-12 18:57:52 UTC
Hi, booting as smp did indeed resolve the problem. The mistake was mine, though I didn't know
that was necessary for dual-cpu machines.

Much thanks,

ill still take the blame for this , the first kernel should
have still worked, even in single-cpu mode.
Second kernel is different.

Ill look into this

Please test with the latest LiveCD and reopen this bug if the problem persists.
Comment 5 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:24:25 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
