Since the last time I updated, portage is now pulling in pax-utils. However, I can't get it to compile easily. I will attach the build.log as the solution is not obvious to me. Please let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks.

This is a pretty old bug and we have attempted to address a lot of the problems 
compiling on solaris. Does this problem still exist?

Yup, same problem really. I am clueless as the how to fix and it is a rather low priority.

solaris 9 appears not to have getopt.h if I decypher the log correctly.

Confirmed.

Unfortunately the sparc-solaris2.9 here is very slow, so my prefix is very outdated...

Using dev-libs/gnulib on any solaris now.

Finally got back to my sol-9 prefix and confirmed fixed. Thanks.
