Wanted to put feelers out there and propose the following idea; 1) Create a new USE flag 'xfs' 2) Test the SGI XFS patches with all kernels, eliminate xfs-sources 3) Apply XFS to any kernel if the USE flag is set. I'm aware this creates major stability concerns, so it would be logically unstable for a while until lots and lots of people tested it out. Thoughts? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
I'd test out a few kernels with an XFS use flag included. Most notably gs-sources and gentoo-sources. The duplicity of maintaining a separate "xfs-sources" kernel which, in a nutshell, is gentoo-sources with an additional patch seems redundant. Moreover, XFS support will soon (eventually) be included in the vanilla kernel anyways, which would allow the XFS use flag to be phased out with minimal interruption (it wuold just start to be ignored, as XFS support would just exist in the newer versions anyways). Definately count me as a 'pro' vote for this.
This is already in the works, thanks :-D. Initially it will go into the test kernel tree (what is now known as pfifer-sources). Once it is tested by others, then it will be considiered for merging into gentoo-sources. The problem with the useflag route is that xfs touches too much stuff for that to work. Anyhow, look for it in the next pfifer-sources.
