After emerge pidgin, a message is shown by:
pkg_postinst() {
        gnome2_pkg_postinst
        print_pidgin_warning
}

This message suggests backup .gaim directory instead of .purple:

ewarn "We strongly recommend that you backup your ~/.gaim directory"

yes, it means gaim, its for the migration code...  I guess its going to disapear from the next version..
