I realize that by setting a minimum on the length of search terms you are trying to reduce the load on your servers. However, it becomes difficult to search for articles referencing many common linux commands. In my case, I was looking for info on setting the various colors for the output of the "ls" command. ls was rejected as a search term, probably because it is only 2 letters long. The other limitation that I have noticed is that numbers seem to be rejected. This makes it difficult to search for issues relating to a specific version of a program. Again, in my case, I was searching for an issue after upgrading to XFree 4.3. "4.3" was rejected as a search term. My suggestion (if this is possible) would be to allow certain search terms to be passed. These would include the linux commands, programs withing the Gentoo ebuild list that have short names ("X", for example), and version numbers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
This actually appears to be a php limitation -- besides, the forums look to be more searchable these days.
The in ability to search on version numbers is extremely frustrating especially now that gentoo does version releases like 2004.2 if you search on '2004.2' you get all hits with 2004 and 2 regardless of the the period being included. Very Very annoying I think it would be of great help in search and reduce duplicate posts if people could search on version numbers.
