Description Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-11-21 19:38:51 UTC
15 months after this damned thing has been masked, we still are getting bugs as a result of this wonderful experiment. Bug 199471 and Bug 199904 being the latest examples.

Please remove this and make people unmerge the thing.

Please note that -C of this borked stuff leaves config_protected junk in /etc/env.d behind, which tends to break your setup after the next compiler upgrade.
I quickly blocked and unmerged it when it was first released cause it immediately broke wine on amd64, long before it was masked, but after the next gcc I ran into that trap.
A warning might be helpful.

/etc/env.d is CONFIG_PROTECT_MASKed by default, so that's not the issue. There's other stuff that doesn't get cleaned-up, which is well know screw-up. And no, there's no way to provide a warning to anyone, on umerge the ebuild from VDB is used, not the one in the tree.

when Kevin gets around to redoing this, he can re-add from cvs history
