It's very hard to view gentoo as a server when there are web-browsers in the 
net-www package namespace as well as web-servers. Ditto for other ones.

It would be nice to be able to view a package list of non-X applications.

our portage database is organized by function of the application, rather than whether it is a server or desktop app.  We may look at providing this functionality in the future, however.
