Description Kevin Parent 2007-11-13 17:32:36 UTC
"useradd" command fails to yield encrypted password in /etc/shadow.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add new user: "useradd -g users -p welcome pcguest
2. Check /etc/shadow for user account. 2nd field is password and should be encrypted.

Actual Results:
# grep pcguest /etc/shadow
pcguest:welcome:13830:0:99999:7:::

Expected Results:
"useradd" and "passwd" commands should yield ENCRYPTED passwords, not plain text!

DOH! Nevermind, "useradd -p" needs an encrypted password.

Editing /etc/pam.d/system-auth solved the passwd command issue.

Marking this as invalid.

Sorry about that.
