Bug 198964 – missing png support in sci-visualization/gnuplot-4.2.2-r1 although gd has it

my gnuplot doesn't have png support anymore, although i have USE=png systemwide. I'm aware that in now depends on gd (#171045, #185126).
My gd is compiled with USE=png (using genlop -i :)

   Install date: Tue Jul 17 15:38:49 2007
   USE="jpeg png truetype -fontconfig -xpm"
   CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O3 -pipe"

if i re-emerge gnuplot, it says somewhere :

  jpeg terminal: no (requires libgd with jpeg support)
  gif terminal: no (requires libgd with gif support)
  png terminal: no (requires libgd with png support)
    (jpeg, gif and png terminals cannot use TTF fonts, requires libgd support)
  pdf terminal: yes


i dont know where to go from there.
