Description Paul Hewlett 2007-11-07 13:03:31 UTC
Emergeing ecryptfs-utils emerges keyutils in turn. Compilation fails to find -lkeyutils

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Edit /etc/portage/package.keyword and unmask ecryptfs-utils and keyutils

2.emerge ecryptfs-utils
3.keyutils gets emerged and fails

Actual Results:
sundown ~ # emerge -av ecryptfs-utils

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N    ] sys-apps/keyutils-1.2  0 kB
[ebuild  N    ] sys-fs/ecryptfs-utils-18  0 kB

Total: 2 packages (2 new), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Expected Results:
Clean emerge of keyutils and ecryptfs-utils

I had already emerge ecryptfs on other PC's without problem. WhenI could not emerge keyutils on this PC I unmerged ecryptfs-utils/keyutils on a previously successful PC and the re-emerged ecryptfs-utils only to get this error.

Reproducible here too, gcc-4.2.2
Comment 2 Vladimir Pouzanov 2007-11-20 13:35:28 UTC
Also confirming on keyutils-1.1:

>>> Unpacking keyutils-1.1.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/keyutils-1.1/work
>>> Source unpacked.

cc -Wall -O2 -march=i686 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer  -o keyctl keyctl.c -L. -lkeyutils -Wl,-rpath,
cc -Wall -O2 -march=i686 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer  -o request-key request-key.c -L. -lkeyutils -Wl,-rpath,
/usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.2.2/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lkeyutils

BUT! this one is merged (without request-key binary), so the second emerge succeeds. Now I've even managed to merge 1.2 version (but it shold be considered broken due to the fact that it's linked to *old* 1.1 lib)

A workaround is to oneshot the previous keyutils-1.1 and then emerge ecryptfs-utils viz:

emerge -1 '=sys-apps/keyutils-1.1'
emerge -av ecryptfs-utils

works. The emerge does *not* try to re-emerge keyutils 1.2.

and (replying to my own entry), repeating the emerge then brings it up to date

emerge -av keyutils
emerge -av keyutils
emerge -av ecryptfs-utils
