same for me

Chris G,

I'm not sure we ever made an amd64 bit version of openssl-0.9.7. Since most of the packages are now being split into x86 and amd64, we're probably going to need an amd64 version of the libraries, and I don't have any amd64 machines.

Any chance you could look at this one when you get the time please? Thanks... 5:)
Comment 4 Grégoire Favre 2007-11-26 21:05:45 UTC
I would also love to try this as I got the same error here :-)
Comment 5 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-11-30 01:34:56 UTC
I'll check it out when I get a chance.
Comment 6 Rich 2007-12-03 07:21:51 UTC
This occurs also for app-emulation/vmware-player-2.0.2.59824 (only on X64 architectures). The fundamental problem is that the gentoo ebuild substitutes different libcrypto and libssl libraries due to other unrelated bugs, as noted in the ebuild, but there are no X64 versions of these libraries.

As a stopgap, people trying to get it working can download the freely available vmware distribution (for X64), untar it, and copy or symlink the contained libcrypto and libssl libraries to the expected directory for gentoo (/opt/vmware/player/lib/bin).
Comment 7 me 2007-12-05 10:58:46 UTC
i had to copy the /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8 to /opt/vmware/player/lib/bin and renamed it to libcrypto.so.0.9.7
same with libssl.so.0.9.7

with this everything works fine

This works for me, too:
cd /opt/vmware/player/lib/bin
ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so libcrypto.so.0.9.7
ln -s /usr/lib/libssl.so libssl.so.0.9.7
Comment 9 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-23 20:56:16 UTC
This version of vmware-player no longer exists within the tree, so I'm going to mark this bug as FIXED under the assumption that the latest version of vmware-player doesn't feature this problem. Please leave a message here if this is still happening with 2.5.1.126130 and I'll reopen it...
