As the Summary says, elfutils DOES require gcc-3.2 otherwise it will not compile,
it has been tried before and that is why it is masked.
Try again and prove me wrong.

What ebuild requires elfutils on gentoo 1.2, as that ebuild needs to be masked.
Your compiler is old and not supported by all new packages. (much like glibc-2.3.x will not compile with gcc-2.95.3 )

the new rpm does this :)
Comment 4 Stefan Jones (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-28 10:38:50 UTC
Might as well reply,

I thought the new rpm is masked for gentoo 1.2 for this reason exactly, see

/usr/portage/profiles/default-1.0/packages

Is it done wrongly or have an old portage tree?

Please close the bug if it is ok now.
