Description Marek Sapota 2007-11-03 00:54:12 UTC
gnome-appearance-properties starts and does not response. I'm using compiz-fusion, but I think, I've tried without it and it hung anyway.

(gnome-appearance-properties:23717): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engi ne in module_path: "hcengine",

(gnome-appearance-properties:23717): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_map: assertion `GTK_WIDGET_VISIBLE (widget)' failed

(gnome-appearance-properties:23717): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_widget_map: assertion `GTK_WIDGET_VISIBLE (widget)' failed

When I re-run, first two warnings are gone.

Reproducible: Always

Please reopen with the following info :

- output of "emerge --info"
- versions of gnome, control-panel, compiz*, gtk, ...
- try to reproduce the bug with a standard theme engine such as clearlooks
Comment 2 Marek Sapota 2007-11-03 09:45:46 UTC
Sorry for no info.
I use clearlooks.

Screenshot of a buggy kcontrol.

Doesn't work with metacity.
Works when started from fluxbox.
Actually it always works, but it doesn't redraw the interface, I can change things when acting "blindly". This doesn't have to be gnome issue, as kcontrol stopped working the same time gnome did - menu works, but left side is always blank/white.

I've added hal and dbus flags recently, but I didn't use gnome before, so I can't tell what causes this bugs. I've recompiled both kcontrol and control-center, still the same results.

As a data point, it works fine for me with metacity. I don't have compiz-fusion, but I do have a clearlooks theme.

I fail to see why you are talking about the appearance capplet and then of kcontrol...

anyway after adding dbus and hal to your use flag, did you emerge -DuNav world ?
Comment 7 Marek Sapota 2007-11-03 22:16:02 UTC
Both failed at the same time, so it may be a common issue.

Yes, I re-emerged world for new flags, and I've restarted my pc.

It got fixed by some recent updates. Works now.
