I just attempted to emerge xmahjongg /usr/games was created with mode 750 (games.games) thus normal users can not see /usr/games/bin where the binary was placed. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start off with no /usr/games directory 2. emerge xmahjongg 3. Actual Results: /usr/games has mode 750 Expected Results: /usr/games should have mode 755 so that normal users can see the games in /usr/games/bin, etc. Portage 2.0.47-r10 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.2, glibc-2.3.1-r4) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-gentoo-r2 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.70GHz GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu/ http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" USE="x86 oss 3dnow apm avi crypt cups encode gif jpeg libg++ libwww mikmod mmx mpeg ncurses nls pdflib png quicktime spell truetype xml2 xmms xv zlib gdbm berkdb slang readline svga java guile X sdl gpm tcpd pam ssl perl python esd imlib oggvorbis gnome gtk motif opengl mozilla cdr -kde -qt -arts -ipv6 -alsa" COMPILER="gcc3" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" MAKEOPTS="-j2" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache"
everything is the way it should be ... in other words, the behavior you see is *exactly* by design read the message whenever you emerge a game ... * Remember, in order to play games, you have to * be in the 'games' group.
