Whenever I try to ruun one of the rc scripts I get some odd error messages. As far as I can tell, the RC scripts are running correctly but are providing confusing feedback. This behavour only began this week, so it must have been something I brought in with a recent ebuild: I marked this down as a major bug becase even though it is non-critical, having the RC scripts is essential for newbies. People will be put off if this is not fixed! root@imelda init.d # ./mysql status /sbin/runscript.sh: line 75: /var/tmp/portage/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 76: /etc/init.d/http: No such file or directory * status: started root@imelda init.d # ./mysql restart /sbin/runscript.sh: line 75: /var/tmp/portage/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 76: /etc/init.d/http: No such file or directory * Stopping mysqld... I am fairly sure that this is not a MySQL bug. All scripts in the etc/init.d folder appear to be equally affected. The reason why I used mysql in my example is that the service appeared to be starting correctly despite the warning messages. This bug needs to be referred onto whoever maintains the /etc/init.d common scripts.
Each time I run one rc script from a new folder, the folder name is added to the list of folders in the error messae. Thus the length of the error message keeps on increasing! The bugs still show up after an env-update and a system reset. It's quite hideous to see a huge list of these errors pollute the nasty screen that is normally full of sensible looking [ok] service start messages. sal@imelda init.d $ sudo ./apache start /sbin/runscript.sh: line 75: /var/tmp/portage/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 76: /etc/init.d/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 77: /home/sal/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 78: /etc/hotplug/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 79: /etc/apache/conf/vhosts/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 80: /home/httpd/htdocs/jukebox-4.1/www/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 81: /home/httpd/htdocs/jukebox-4.1/http: No such file or directory /sbin/runscript.sh: line 82: /etc/conf.d/http: No such file or directory * Starting apache... Bug Wranglers: Please re-assign this to the correct location (I'm not sure who myself)
please attach fstab is /etc on an other partition than root ? is /etc empty ? which version of baselayout ?
jay, tossing to you, since az is offline for a while
Can this still be reproduced?
i dont think so, reopen if it still exists
