When GNOME starts, it says Error activating XKB settings Then it displays following: X-server version The X.Org Foundation 10400000 and suggests to attach following information: - Output of xprop -root | grep XKB - Output of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd Here are these two outputs: _XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "xorg", "pc105", "us,ru", "winkeys", "grp:ctrl_shift_toggle" _XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "xorg", "pc105", "us,ru", "winkeys", "grp:ctrl_shift_toggle" layouts = [] model = overrideSettings = true options = [] I have searched all the bugs and forum posts about this issue and have found some descriptions, but none of them helps. Is there any solution? By the way, I have a problem that ru layout is not of variant winkeys - it's basic despite that the variant winkes is specified on xorg.conf. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Log in into Gnome 2. 3.
I've had this too around Gnome 2.14, not knowing how to fix it, I just started with a fresh profile and that "fixed" it. If you can, try cleaning out .gconf, .gnome2{,_private}. I know that's not a proper fix, but the interaction between gnome, xkbd and xorg is voodoo to me. :) Let us know if it helps.
Mr. Cardona! Thanks for reply! After removing configs an error message disappearedm but the layout variant is still basic! Not the one I set in xorg.conf So, still wondering, what to do.
x11-misc/xkbdata is unsupported and will be removed. If you can reproduce this w/ x11-misc/xkeyboard-config, the reopen the bug.
