smstools contains a patch to fix permissions on the sms spool directory. It doesn't really work, because any file a user sends will be owned by the user's uid and gid, and smsd cannot read it. smsd should therefore run as root (eugh), or the spool directory should have setgid permission so that users in the sms group can send sms'. Reproducible: Always
