This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
  /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 [0xb646d8ce]

Works fine for me in KDE 3.5.8. Can you please try to update your KDE?

kde 3.5.8 is still masked with ~x86 and I have to run a x86 system for stability reasons.

If this is the only solution, I'll wait until it will be unmasked (it is a minor bug).

Well, in the case of KDE, the packages in kde-base marked testing/unstable usually are at least as stable as their stable-marked counterparts.

As this is fixed in 3.5.8, I'm closing this bug.

I have finally updated my box to kde 3.5.8 (marked as x86 stable)

emerge --sync
emerge -uvDN world
revdep-rebuild

but the bug still appears:

process 6893: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect, assertion "_dbus_check_is_valid_path (path)" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1074.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
  /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 [0x42c268ce]
KDE Daemon (kded) already running.
kded: ERROR: Communication problem with kded, it probably crashed.

Should I upgrade something else? I am still running a x86 system.

Cheers,
Max

Could you please try to get a meaningful backtrace? See http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml

gdb backtrace

I have compiled kde-base/kdelibs with debugging options and following the instructions given on the website I have got the attached backtrace.

I hope it is useful for you.
