Since official VLC development has stalled out with 0.8.6c, I'd like to maintain a new ebuild that can provide builds from SVN, in the style of the official VLC Nightlies releases. The vlc-svn overlay at http://gentoo-overlays.zugaina.org/zugaina/ seems to be unmaintained. I've taken the starting vlc-svn-0.3.ebuild and patched it heavily to build with recent nightly snapshots. The only problem I'm presently aware of is that aac (libfaad) support is broken; this seems to be a bug in svn r22466. I've added musicbrainz, libnotify, and qt4 flags to the IUSE and fixed up the internals to use them. We are generally not adding more live VCS ebuilds, see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=3&chap=1#doc_chap3 I guess we could produce a snapshot ebuild instead.
just bumped a snapshot, your ebuild base seems quite old, if you have updates for the snapshot in the tree please open a new bug an attach unified diffs to the ebuild it's much easier to read
