I had a mail by a user who was confused that smcinit has files colliding with irda-utils. irda-utils ships smcinit in latest versions and that is much more up-to-date. Seems upstream decided to stop separate smcinit development. So I'd suggest to remove smcinit (and point users to irda-utils).
That's fine for me. Just added smcinit to package.mask with some explanation. Treecleaners: how should I proceed from now on? Wait the usual 30 days then delete the package, or you take care of that?
if you're taking care of it then it has nothing to do with us. ;) we just handle maintainer-needed stuff.
OK, thanks. I'll take care of this, then...
I'm probably the user Hanno is referring to in the description. And apparently I'm the only one running irda-utils and smcinit with portage collision-protect. I didn't catch this before I sent the email, sorry about the traffic. Anyway, just to remember to include the smcinit binaries and rc-scripts to irda-utils before removing it. Should I open a separate bug for this?
irda-utils-0.9.18-r2 has all the stuff you need. ;-) so feel free to remove smcinit after some testing.
ok, finally net-wireless/irda-utils-0.9.18-r2 is ready. So please remove app-laptop/smcinit from portage.
app-laptop/smcinit is no more.
