Please find attached SVGATextMode.tar.gz containing SVGATextMode-1-10.ebuild and patches (in files dir) for various compatibility issues (GeForcem, Voodoo, >=gcc 3.2, alpha support, Makefile...). SVGATextMode uses extra features on SVGA cards to enhance Linux textmodes. It allows setting of the pixel clock, H/V timings, font size, cursor size, etc, and lets you use your video card and monitor to their full potential in textmode. (see homepage: http://freshmeat.net/projects/svgatextmode/) I suggest app-misc/SVGATextMode Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:

Also included is the digest and a runlevel script to be called at boot time.
...and I would like and be willing to maintain this ebuild, can you tell me how?
Created attachment 10788 [details] SVGATextMode.tar.gz (cleaned up) Forgot to clean things up, deleted one file and changed the ebuild script. Sorry...

svgatextmode seems unmaintained upstream. what's the story there?
The SVGATextMode source tarball contains a file doc/NO_SUPPORT indicating that the program is no longer in development. One of the pertinant reasons given is that SVGATextMode functionality has been replaced by framebuffer support in the Linux kernel.
Closing since SVGATextMode is a deprecated program.
The documentation for the VGA console in the 2.6.24 kernel still points one to SVGATextMode, as such does that validate having a ebuild for it. I haven't found any replacements either.
Replacement is kernel framebuffer. SVGATextMode always was quite unmaintained and hard to setup and does nothing the framebuffer can't do.
