Judging from the configure script this can only happen when the evolution 2.12 pkg-config file is not properly installed in a way that pkg-config can find.

Could you please include the output of 'locate evolution-plugin'?

Also, given that evolution 2.12 is not yet in the tree, could you indicate how you installed it?

$ locate evolution-plugin
/usr/lib/pkgconfig/evolution-plugin.pc

Almos forgot: I installed it from the gnome-experimental overlay. Tried to check this again now, but it seems gnome from the overlay.

Ok, so this is upstream bug https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?20904

evolution changed the way that the plugin is installed: it no longer includes the version number in the filename. This is probably a good thing in the long run, but causes problems now.

The patches in the original bug can't be applied as-is: patching configure is a hack that I'd rather not do, and also they don't take backwards compatibility into account.

So let's waint until this issue is solved upstream.

BTW, evo 2.12 includes it's own mail notification systray applet.
Comment 8 Helmut Eberharter 2007-10-24 07:58:16 UTC
The pity is, the evo-notification doesn't show the mailbox, just the folder, and a lot of my mailboxes uses "INBOX" for the incoming mial folder. In short words: I'd prefer mail-notification

As far as I can tell evo's own mail notification has horrible usability (eg. it keeps flashing until pacified), no configuration options whatsoever, and it requires evolution to be running. Personally, I prefer mail-notification and thus it won't be going anywhere (but forward :-) in portage.

That said, evo's mail notification may work fine for some people, so thanks for mentioning it!

I've just added mail-notification-4.1-r1 to CVS which should work fine with evolution 2.12.

very nice!
