Description Jerome 2007-09-30 20:53:00 UTC
Hello,

There are a lot of files which are needed only at emerge time.
For example, in /usr/portage/mail-client/evolution directory
there are 3 ebuild files but 13 patch/diff files.

I wonder why we need to sync those latest emerge time files.
Indeed, we need them only when emerging evolution.

Why not splitting the current tree into:
- 1 tree for meta information and ebuilds
- 1 tree for gentoo specific patches (what is currently into "files" sub directories)

In our example, when we emerge evolution, then the ebuild will retrieve the patches from the secondary tree.

Reproducible: Always

We have mailing lists for similar abstract suggestions, not bugzilla.
