I have an IBM NetVista with the i845 chipset. I was having problems with ALSA not playing any sounds dispite not having any error messages and the installation go without a hitch. But, there were no sounds with anything (aplay/xmms). I searched google and found the link I included. someone there said to unmute the Headphone channel along with Master and PCM. As soon as I issued the amixer command, I heard a pop on my speakers and aplay started working perfectly. If the ALSA documentation on gentoo.org contained this information, it would have saved me a bunch of headaches. :) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: See Details tab Actual Results: See Details tab Expected Results: See Details tab See Details tab
please remove me on 'alsa configuration guide'. there are other devs who know more on alsa, i suppose..
Correct me if I am wrong, but this is already mentioned in the docs: """ If you got this far, now unmute both Master and PCM channels. Code listing 3.5 # amixer set Master 100 unmute # amixer set PCM 100 unmute """
Setting this bug as FIXED, REOPEN if needed.
No, the current documents do not say to unmute the Headphone channel. Re-read the 2nd paragraph of my original comment and the URL I included for details. I would flag this for reopening but one cannot apparently reopen their own bug tickets.
