I first compiled openoffice (2.3, but it was the same with the previous version) without the "java" USE FLAG. Every time I try to use the mailing assistant, OOo will juste die (and open the restore file dialog). I just emerged it again with USE="java" and the problem is gone. I realise that I should have gathered more information on this bug before trying to compile with java, and I'm sorry for that... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge openoffice without java 2.open (or create) a document in writer 3.try to open tools > mailing assistant Actual Results: openoffice closes itself, and auto-restart with the recover file dialog. (PS I'm french, so I don't really know how to name the menus or dialog boxes in english) Expected Results: It could be great if the mailing assistant could just work. But if it is java dependant, it should at least tell me that the fonction is not available, not just crash.

Is this still a problem with more recent versions of OOo?

With openoffice-bin-3.0.0 I could not even get past the first start dialog with USE="-java", it hung completely right after pressing the "Finish" button. BTW with USE="java" I got a reproducible instant hang when I switch to the Java panel of the Options dialog. At the same time (and when starting OOo) on the console I get a HotSpot VM crash both with sun-jdk-1.5 and -1.6. So please reopen.
err sorry I've overlooked this is for compiled openoffice and not openoffice-bin so maybe I should add a new bug for -bin instead right?
