Recent update of xorg-server-1.4 required updates to nvidia-drivers (and ATI) which didn't support the new xorg-server-1.4. The current drivers were updated to work with current xorg-server-1.4 on 19th September. The legacy nvidia-drivers (96** and 71**) have now been updated too (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=99186 and http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=99185) and support current versions of xorg-server. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge =xorg-base/xorg- 2. 3. Actual Results: >=x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r1 depends on >=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.19 Expected Results: >=x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r1 should work with... x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-71.86.01 x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-96.43.01 x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.19
Except that we need relevant ebuilds bumped first. And optimally we need anything but 100.14.19 from the 100.x series gone to make the deps actually reasonably maintainable in xorg-server (like, >=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-71.86.01)

Should probably put something about the xorg-server dep in the summary, I saw this bug but just thought it was just another version bump request. Didn't expect it had anything to do with the deps. I also didn't realize that the 96.* and 71.* ebuilds were masked, and apologize for that. Need to check package.unmask first ;)

It is however mentioned in the description.
Legacy nvidia-drivers have hit portage, and xorg-server-1.4-r2 supports these. Pleased to report that everything has upgraded fine and is working :) Thanks to the respective devs/maintainers.
Committed these on Friday. Unmasked today.
