I really like the Unicode patch and it's been in the tree for a good while now. I have seen no problems with this version on either x86 or hppa.
Ubuntu seems to use a svn version instead. I checked the tree at http://svn.musicpd.org/viewsvn/ncmpc/trunk/?sortby=date#dirlist and it seems the original author put some unicode fixes into the trunk some months after the last release. I'm about to take a snapshot and make an ebuild. I'm not using UTF-8 - would you test it?

No problems here, I'm using ncmpc on three different x86 boxes daily, and can't really complain. x86 done. Other arches, fire at will, thanks.
