Description David McDonald 2007-09-25 18:31:50 UTC
When trying to install desklet-hypertail it says:

emerge -va desklet-hypertail
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies -
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "<gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.35_rc1".
(dependency required by "x11-plugins/desklet-hypertail-2.01-r1" [ebuild])

Opening the ebuild I see:

RDEPEND="<gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.35_rc1
         >=x11-plugins/desklet-regexp-1.0"

I thought that it had to be "<=" not "<" ether way I changed it to: RDEPEND=">=gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.35.2
         >=x11-plugins/desklet-regexp-1.0"

Then did:
ebuild /usr/portage/x11-plugins/desklet-hypertail/desklet-hypertail-2.01-r1.ebuild digest

and emerged it. It works fine for me with gdesklets-core-0.35.4 (I believe it needed to be tested with that.)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.unmask desklet-hypertail
2. emerge -va desklet-hypertail
3.

Actual Results:
Calculating dependencies -
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "<gnome-extra/gdesklets-core-0.35_rc1".
(dependency required by "x11-plugins/desklet-hypertail-2.01-r1" [ebuild])

I see that I was suppost to put the emerge --info here, will do that in the furture. Let me know if there is any way I can make the bug report more useful. Thanks.

I don't know where you heard that, but I don't see why '<' is not allowed. At the time, it only worked reliably with older versions of -core. I'll look at the package again to see if it can be taken out of p.mask. I'm also not sure that Gentoo will continue to provide ebuilds for (a) desklets, and (b) desklets that don't appear on http://gdesklets.de/ . I believe the plan for the future of gDesklets is to use a desklet or the shell to manage desklets - see https://blueprints.launchpad.net/gdesklets/+spec/desklet-control .

I just checked the devmanual for ebuild and you are correct, now that I think of it I don't know where I came up with that ether :/ Oh well, thanks for looking into this.

This is on its way out. It doesn't work with the latest version of gdesklets-core.
