I would like to read the Handbooks offline. When I download a handbook, I can't view it in the browser. I get an XML error. Here are the details: I am running Ubuntu 6.06 Gnome 2.14.3 Firefox 1.5.0.12 In the page: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1 In the Firefox "File" menu, I select "save page as". Filename: handbook-x86.xml Folder: /home/mb/try1/ File type: webpage, complete A window opens, reporting download confirmed. I open a new tab, choose File menu, choose Open File... select /home/mb/try1/handbook-x86.xml and I get this error in the browser window: XML Parsing Error: mismatched tag. Expected: </link>. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: see above Actual Results: see above Expected Results: I should be able to see the "handbook-x86.xml" file in Firefox. see above
You should save html versions or install gorg. http://gentoo.neysx.org/mystuff/gorg/gorg.xml This is not a bug.
To clarify previous comment -- although firefox knows that that page is (despite the "extension" in the URL) HTML, it saves it with the .xml suffix. Upon loading, it tries to use a XML-rendering mode which is not what you want. A simple workaround should be to save the page to a file with .html extension.
