It seems in the meantime Egoboo was resurected is being actively developed by a group of fans and has come so far that they reached 2.4.1 ...and yes, oddly, 2.4.1 (community) is a lot newer and improved then 2.22 (latest offical). It seems someone has misplaced the dot at some point. It would be nice to see Egoboo flourish again on Gentoo. P.S. and OT: The maker of Egoboo has also made a similar, yet more advanced, game called SoulFu — which is also being ported by the community. I'll post a bugreport on that later.

Anton's ebuild and patch compile and work like a charm on amd64.

I just can figure out why adding time.h befor stat.h does not work. It's not even working when #define __need_timespec is done.
2.6.4 (for linux) is out. I'm changing the summary to match the version. It seems that this community-based Egoboo is also officially the successor of Egoboo that the Bishop brothers made. So this is the real deal now.
2.6.5 is out. I'm changing the summary accordingly again.

Egoboo 2.7.0b has been released
Looked at the source to 2.7.4. Still needs to be patched to use the system enet and to read the data files from some place other than CWD. Frankly, given the state of the code I'm inclined to just punt the package.
2.7.4 is now in portage. Thanks for report. Due to different naming old version has been rename to 2.2.2
