Description Robin Bankhead 2007-09-20 10:09:33 UTC
Hello,

Using a Belkin F5D7010 Cardbus 802.11g card (Broadcom 4306 chipset) with wpa_supplicant-0.5.8 and kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r6. On the other end of the ad-hoc connection is a Netgear Rangemax WPN111 USB 802.11g adapter on XP host. Using WEP-104 security.

Up to ndiswrapper-1.47 I have had no problem with this setup. With the two RC versions, infrastructure connections are still fine, but the ad-hoc connection silently fails.

By "silently" I mean: the connection goes up exactly as normal, including correct setting of all TCP/IP parameters, and the dmesg output is exactly as before - but can't ping across it in either direction.

Downgrading to 1.47 cures it.

Relevant sections of /etc/conf.d/net:

dhcp_wlan0="nodns"
preferred_aps=( <SNIP> )
associate_order="preferredonly"
blacklist_aps=( <SNIP> )
scan_mode_wlan0="Ad-Hoc"

mode_myessid="ad-hoc"
config_myessid=( "192.168.1.15 netmask 255.255.255.0" )
routes_myessid=( "default gw 192.168.1.1" )
dns_servers_myessid=( "192.168.1.1" )

and /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf:

ap_scan=2
fast_reauth=1

network={
        ssid="myessid"
        mode=1
        key_mgmt=NONE
        wep_key0="<SNIPSNIP>"
        wep_tx_keyidx=0
        priority=1
}

Comment 1 Piotr Jaroszyński (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-12-08 10:34:18 UTC
What about 1.50?
Comment 2 Robin Bankhead 2007-12-08 12:14:28 UTC
Problems are more severe with later versions: no connectivity at all.

See http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201359

If this is still a issue with latest versions, please reopen.
Comment 4 Robin Bankhead 2009-10-03 11:12:09 UTC
I'm no longer able to test this card, had to replace it some months ago due to these issues.
