The example on code listing 4.1 notes how to check disks whilst formatting them. It would be useful to note this commands actually formats the disk, not just check for errors. At the moment it reads:

"while placing the ext2 or ext3 filesystem on it"

This could be expanded to hint this means THIS WILL FORMAT THE DISK.
