A few days ago I broke portage (doesnt matter how) and so I recoverd it with the instructions in /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/README.RESCUE as per the FAQ. One of the files it recovers is /etc/make.conf - the version of this file with which it replaces the existing copy is from and old version of gentoo which means that under the FETCHING FILES heading there is no option to fill in YOUR_OWN_MIRROR_HERE which considering I like to use mirror.ac.uk/ is a pain. I know its not really broken as such, but it OUGHT to be up to date, all of this tarball. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/ 2. do tar xjpUvf portage-rescue-2.0.44-x86.tbz2 -C / 3. Look in horror at /etc/make.conf Actual Results: As described, out of date make.conf This is infact a well easy work around. Just pack up a tarball from the latest portage, and change the documentation to read: Run the following to extract the tarball (substitute your arch for 'x86') # tar xjpUvf portage-rescue-2.0.47-r10-x86.tbz2 -C / ie change the version number to correspond with the current portage.
New tarball posted. Also note that it isn't out of date. If you follow directions, it is made to be current.
