There apppears to have been a change in alsa-lib between release 1.0.14rc3 and 1.0.14rc4 that is causing our problem. I have not been able to resolve it yet, so I am still running alsa-lib at 1.0.14rc3. I am currently running the alsa driver at 1.0.14, but it seems to not matter what release the driver is. alsa-lib version 1.0.15rc1 fixes this isse. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install a souncard that needs snd_ice1712 as driver 2. Configure kernel to build snd_ice1712 as a module 3. start alsa (/etc/init.d/alsasound start 4. cat file.au > /dev/sound/audio Actual Results: The following error message appears (tested with audiophile 2496) ALSA sound/core/pcm_native.c:1525: playback drain error (DMA or IRQ trouble?) Expected Results: Hear sound alsa-lib version 1.0.15rc1 fixes this isse.Manual instalation of alsa-driver-1.0.15rc1, alsa-lib-1.0.15rc1, alsa-plugins-1.0.15rc1, alsa-utils-1.0.15rc1 fixed the problem.
