I tried installing linuxdcpp on a server which was compiled with -X, and after compilation, it failed with an error that no fonts are found. I eventually discovered that linuxdcpp has a missing dependency on a font package. I used font-misc-misc which worked.
Please, post the errors and emerge --info output and reopen then. Thanks.
forget it then... I fixed it myself and this was the cause of the problem. If you don't believe me, you get to deal with the "wtf my 1337 hax arn't working" bug reports this causes.

I already had fontconfig installed, and that doesn't fix it. Like I said, an actual font such as font-misc-misc needs to be pulled in for it to work.
