when i am in an X-window environment (which for me is either KDE 3.1.1 or fluxbox) and attempt to switch over to a non-X command line using ctrl-alt-f1, f2, f3, or f4, often my computer will completely freeze (unable to switch back, enter any commands, nothing) and i will be unable to do anything other than a power down and reboot. This doesn't happen every time it, but maybe 50% of the time. This is also occurring with the same frequency on a friend's computer as well. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. While using X, press ctrl-alt-f1 2. 3. Actual Results: System is completely frozen Expected Results: It should switch to the CL and allow me to do what I need to do, then switch back to X as necessary. are you using rivafb and nvidia drivers togheter? please give us information on your graphic card driver and framebuffer one
right now i believe i am using the radeon driver (this is what is specified in XFConfig-4) ... as for the framebuffer...im not sure, but tell me where to find that and ill let you know
you should look in your dmesg, anyway i think the problem is with radeon ati driver... lu_zero, can you take a look here?
This shouldn't be assigned to kde@g.o since it also happens with flux. To the submitter: don't assign bugs right away, let the bug wranglers assign them.
as per previous decision I close that bug with TEST-REQUEST, plase reopen after you compile X, with less aggressive flags, I won't suggest the use of the mmx and sse flags with the whole system for stability reasons, same for optimization sse related. -fomit-frame-pointer is known to break certain programs that rely on the framepointer to work.
alright i will emerge -e world using noted flags, and then re-test. thanks for the help everyone
Hi Jim! Is this bug still actual or can I close it?
reopen if not.
