Description Luká Polívka 2007-09-06 07:51:04 UTC
jabberd14 and jabberd2 are two different projects. Both are active at the moment, with completely different codebases. The current packaging in Gentoo is misleading.

I propose to split net-im/jabberd into net-im/jabberd14 and net-im/jabberd2.

Citation from jabberd.org:
jabberd14 is the original server implementation of the Jabber protocol, now known as XMPP. It is open source, and it is free. This implementation has been formerly known as just jabberd as well.

Please note: jabberd2 (also known as jabberd 2.x) is not a newer version of jabberd14 but a completely different project.

Reproducible: Always

I see this change has been made in portage. Any idea when the hard masks on the ebuilds will be removed?
Comment 2 Thomas Anderson (tanderson) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-03 00:13:27 UTC
It seems it was already split. But according to $URL, we should do a package move from jabberd->jabberd14

I think the current situation(jabberd2 and jabberd) is fine, and it isn't really confusing. So I'm going to mark this as RESO WONTFIX(with regards to your request to move jabberd to jabberd14). Note that jabberd2 has already been split out.
