Description Colin Macdonald 2007-09-06 04:22:13 UTC
This should probably be assigned to dang@gentoo.org but bugzilla won't seem to let me do that.

I'm trying to test the new evince 2.19.92 which from all accounts should have forms support. I've unmasked the new poppler 0.6.0 and evince 2.19.92 but I cannot type/click/etc on any of the form elements in any pdf files with forms (e.g., the ones at http://live.gnome.org/Evince/Forms).

When I mouse over a form entry field, no visual indication happens. If I click and type nothing happens either.

I looked at the configure script and there doesn't seem to be an "enable-forms" or something like that. I did find a

#ifdef HAVE_FORMS
...
#else

#endif

in ev-poppler.cc in the evince but I haven't tried defining that somewhere and recompiling (may try that next).

Sorry to post a bug on package masked software without a fix attached but I'm just *so* curious to try pdf with forms support ;-)

2.19.92_have_forms.patch

Ok, I wrote this patch and now it works! Not sure if that is a reasonable thing to do or perhaps upstream intends to add a --enable-forms to the configure script to define HAVE_FORMS. Anyway, works for me!
Comment 2 Daniel Gryniewicz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-09-13 01:49:16 UTC
There's an upstream bug for this; they have a fix, and have asked for a break in the code freeze to release it. If the break is not granted, I'll apply the fix to our package before releasing 2.20.0. Thanks for the bug, I'll leave it open so I can track it.
Comment 3 Colin Macdonald 2007-09-13 03:10:58 UTC
Sorry but what's the upstream bug #?
Comment 4 Daniel Gryniewicz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-09-13 15:47:38 UTC
There doesn't appear to be a bug open about it; it came across the mailing list. Here's the request for freeze break (which has been granted):

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2007-September/msg00093.html

It also references the diff.
Comment 5 Daniel Gryniewicz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-10-02 14:16:16 UTC
This is supposedly fixed in evince 2.20 in portage.
Comment 6 Colin Macdonald 2007-10-02 16:36:10 UTC
confirmed fixed in 2.20. Sorry, I forgot to come back and close the bug!
