Description David Carlos Manuelda 2007-08-25 09:23:51 UTC
gentoolkit is very very related to emerge command. So I think eclean and revdep-rebuild should follow emerge's syntax for common things like color.

While emerge is using --color={y|n}, and --nocolor will be deprecated, why is revdep-rebuild and eclean still using --nocolor? (or --no-color for revdep-rebuild). Wouldn't be better if no color would set for all with just one command?

Reproducible: Always

There's gentoolkit, eix, portage-utils, udept, pkgcore's pquery, and whatever query tool paludis uses. They all manage color terminal toggling differently, so I'm not willing to go to a lot of effort to adhere to a non-standard.

I have elected to support the NOCOLOR environment variable and -C/--nocolor flags in revdep-rebuild-rewrite. In the end it's the maintainer's decision what gets into SVN, but I expect he'll say if it's that important to you, submit a patch.

This is just an advise of what I think. I think if every portage component use same syntax will not confuse any user. But yes, it is the author decision :)

See comment #1. If you want this reopened, then please provide a patch.
